Ages ago, I started funding a few small entrepreneurs in the developing world (and the developed) who were growing their businesses. Though my loan amount is small, the fact that I can keep recycling the money through different borrowers really makes a difference.
So recently I was pleased to support Tiburcio who is planning to grow more coffee! What better way to get a great cup of coffee!
Tiburcio, aged 43, is a small-scale coffee grower. His small farm is 5.6 hectares, of which 2.8 are used for coffee. This is managed under the criteria of fair trade certification, which he has achieved by his hard work and commitment in managing the farm.
In the last growing cycle he had difficulties with the harvest, since he does not have the production infrastructure to handle the coffee properly, which affected the yields and quality of his product. Because of this, he is asking for a loan to build a wet coffee-processing plant which will enable him to improve his income by increasing the productivity of his farm.
